Phoenix Multisport fosters a supportive, physically active community for individuals who are recovering from alcohol and substance abuse and those who choose to live a sober life. Through spms_logouch pursuits as climbing, hiking, running, swimming, road and mountain biking, and other activities, we seek to help our members develop and maintain the emotional strength they need to stay sober.

Those who define themselves as addicts will find support to redefine themselves as athletes, they will also discover a community that places value on the future rather than the past. Phoenix Multisport offers the opportunity for social and athletic networking that can lead to long lasting relationships with others who share a commitment to sobriety. At the core of our philosophy is the belief that anything is possible when individuals learn how to access their inner reserves of emotional and physical strength. Through this community, individuals can change themselves in positive ways that can be sustained for a lifetime.

Phoenix Multisport was founded by a core group of individuals who share the belief that living an active lifestyle can be an essential key to sobriety. Our founders and Board of photo_830_165x111_0Directors have many years of experience helping others find sobriety, outdoor leadership, and self confidence through athletics.

“Do not be intimidated to come out and join us, even if you are totally new to athletics, I remember what it felt like when I first got started in all the sports PM engages in. While it can be intimidating it can also be some of the most rewarding things that you will ever do. You will be among supportive group of people.” ~ Scott Strode

Founder and Director Scott Strode found sobriety on April 8, 1997, a date he will never forget. He credits his success in recovery to his passion for active pursuits. “I didn’t think my life would be any different when I quit using,” says Strode, “but, wow, was I wrong.” After quitting drugging and drinking, Strode turned his focus to boxing at a local gym in Boston and ice climbing and mountaineering in the nearby White Mountains. Since then, Scott has climbed mountains in the Himalayas, Andes, and Alaska, and completed seven Ironman triathlons in countries around the world. He does not plan to stop there. His passions include rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, strength training, triathlon, and 24 hour mountain bike racing, and he has helped to bring others into all of these disciplines. “I would not have found any of these exciting sports while I was still using,” Strode says. “It is safe to say that finding athletics and staying sober saved my life. It also helped me to define myself as something other than an addict.”

Extended Trips

With the help of our members, PM dreams up, plans, and puts on multiple extended trips each year. On all of our extended trips we offer many different activities, members are welcome to participate in all or none of what we plan. Many come on trips and take part in all that we offer, some come just to hang out.

PM has several regular trips that we host every year; Spring and Fall events in Moab Utah on which we climb, road and mountain bike, hike and camp together, true multi-sport trips! As well as a sober New Years in Ouray CO where we ice climb, snow shoe and ski/board.

Weekly Activities

The backbone of Phoenix Multisport, these frequent and diverse events are offered totally free of charge to our members. Activities change with the season and are held in locations all over the front range so make sure to check the event page of the PM website often to keep up to date.

Phoenix Multisport is proud to sponsor a handful of dedicated men and women in various sports. Most of our sponsored representatives race mountain and or road bikes but we are also happy to be standing behind several triatheletes. Our athletes represent PM in their various sports at levels that range from recreational to professional. PM’s sponsored racers are first and foremost team members who embody the Phoenix Multisport spirit. They are committed to their sports but more importantly to their sobriety.

Racing

Phoenix Multisport is represented at many local and national races. We train and race together doing everything from bike races to triathelons to marathons.

We provide training to members who are working towards their first event as well as to those working to take their racing to the next level. Training and racing as a team is a powerful way to experience the community that PM provides.
