Colorado Youth Program Connects Kids with Nature and Their Communities . . . kids_on_dock_clr
Colorado Youth Program was founded in 1995 by T. Amory Host as a part of his life-long commitment to children. Along with his wife Carrie, Amory’s generosity empowered hundreds of underprivileged children to experience the beauty and magic of the Rocky Mountains, to make friends and to make a difference in their communities.

In 1996, the Colorado Youth Program adopted its summer home, Camp Tahosa, in the mountains of western Boulder County. Camp Tahosa is the site of CYP’s Mountain Summer Camp & Teen Adventure Camp. This 400 acre ranch is surrounded by national forest, has spectacular views of the Indian Peaks and Continental Divide, has miles of hiking trails and is home of Lake Tumblesome. Camp Tahosa provides CYP with all the ingredients for a world class summer camp experience.

In 1997, CYP started the Adventure Club and became a year-round program for kids. Adventure Club kids made an immediate impact on their communities by volunteering their time and hard work to various community causes. The community recognized this and support rolled in from hundreds of individuals, The Denver Foundation, The Berger Foundation, The Anschutz Family Foundation, The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County and many others.hp_main2

In 2003, the Colorado Youth Program had a big first that we hope will become common! A former camper from 1996 & ’97, Elizabeth “Jasper” Bickford, graduated from The University of Northern Colorado and came back to CYP to work as a counselor. “Jasper” insists the Colorado Youth Program was a life changing experience, not only for her, but for her two brothers who were campers for five years. We believe Jasper will be the first of many campers to graduate from college, come back to CYP and help us to continue to make nature a part of the lives of children.

For over ten years the Colorado Youth Program has been helping kids connect with nature and make a difference in their communities.
