In 2005, a group of former Buffs, who were an integral part of the turnaround in CU’s football fortunes in the mid 1980′s, became aware that one of their teammates, Anthony Weatherspoon (Spoon), had been diagnosed with leukemia. His prognosis was bleak and the gravity of the illness hit his family hard in many aspects, including financially. As the burden of medical costs overwhelmed his family, his friends and teammates wanted to help.   The idea of establishing an organization predicated on Buffs helping Buffs in need was born. Spoon’s reputation as being a hardnosed and powerful fullback is synonymous with CU’s return to greatness, but his influence off the field is his greatest legacy. Even though Spoon lost his battle to leukemia later that year, his spirit lives on in the CU Football family.

The Buffs4Life Foundation is ready to help those who have worn the Black in Gold in times of need.   Buffs4Life means just that. You are a Buff for life and not just for the four years you wore the uniform. It is a great honor for all our board members and for those who participate in our cause to be a part of something that brings our community, the University of Colorado, and the Buff family closer together.   We will continue to support and honor Spoon’s family each year and reach out to other Buffs in their time of need. We will be committed to supporting them shoulder to shoulder through their struggles.  Buffs4Life is also dedicated to extending our support to the community by supporting children as part of the Denver Safe House program and giving back to the CU athletic department to support current CU student athletes, especially the football program.

Buffs for Life

Gather your friends, family  and coworkers, and join former CU Athletes and VIP’s for a fun day of golf to support The Buffs4Life Foundation!

The Buffs 4 Life Foundation is a partnership of former University Of Colorado athletes and business leaders in the greater Denver area. We look forward to building on last years’ success as the foundation continues to grow.  We have events taking place on Saturday, June 27th and Sunday, June 28th with the golf tournament taking place at the Omni Interlocken on Monday, June 29th. 

We are excited to be working again with vendors such as Bonefish, Cool River Cantina, Grey Goose and Miller Coors.  Participants will also receive a great gift bag with items from Adidas, Reebok and CU apparel. The fee for this years’ tournament is $250 per golfer.  We look forward to seeing you again this year!  Early registration is recommended.

Event Overview:
Private Sponsor and Player Party- Saturday, June 27th. Buffs 4 Life Foundation will host a private sponsor party @ Earl’s in downtown Denver. This evening, reserved for former players as well as participating sponsors, allows for an intimate “meet and greet” gathering amongst the greatest names CU Football has ever produced! Players who will be present at the private party will include Kordell Stewart, Matt Russell, Darian Hagan, Joel Klatt, Rashaan Salaam, Charles Johnson, Tom Rouen, Alfred Williams, Eric Bieniemy, JJ Flannigan, Solomon Wilcots and more!

Private Pool Party and BBQ- Sunday, June 28th.  All sponsors, players and their families are invited to the Omni Interlocken Resort pool to enjoy a catered BBQ against the backdrop of the Flatirons. This promises to be a memorable event and the perfect way to kick off the golf tournament on Monday.

Celebrity Golf Tournament- Monday, June 29th.   The Omni Interlocken Golf Resort features 27 holes of championship golf with scenic views of the Flatirons. The golf tournament will feature a 10:30 am shotgun start, leading the way to a day of memories and fun. Buffs 4 Life Foundation has secured the course and facilities for the entire day. We are expecting a full field of golfers on 27 holes.  Each foursome will be paired with a former CU Football player and or coach. Approximately 270 players.

Buffs 4 Life is pleased to announce the grand prizes that will be awarded following The Ultimate Putt Competition during the 4th Annual Buffs 4 Life Charity Golf Tournament.:

The grand prize is a 7-night stay in Costa Rica at the Casa de Golf (Casa de Golf), one of the finest and most luxurious vacation homes in the country. With 8 bedrooms sleeping 16+ in comfort, the winner will no doubt have family and newfound friends contacting them for this spectacular golf getaway.

The 2nd prize, closer to home, is a one-week stay at a beautiful Grand Park (www.GrandParkCo.com) mountain chalet within the Arapaho National Forest on the edge of Winter Park surrounded by20the majestic peaks of the Continental Divide.
